STANDARD submission guidelines

Poetry Collections & Anthologies

We consider collections and anthologies from all authors, published or unpublished. However, the best stories or poetry will be selected from all entries. We are looking for well-written stories, with original plots and developed characters. We like character-rich stories that cause readers to be invested in the characters. We try to avoid excessive horror, violence and sexual content, unless it is absolutely necessary to the storyline. We also do not select stories that have unresolved or weak endings, or over-used themes. All stories or poems must contain at least one element pertinent to the overall theme of the anthology. Story and poem length may vary from anthology to anthology, but will always be clearly stated in submission calls. Stories and poetry not meeting either word count or theme criteria will not be accepted, regardless of the merits of the individual story or poem.

Novels

Novel submissions are open to all published and unpublished authors; all submissions will be reviewed. We accept submissions in any genre, but try to avoid excessive horror, violence and sexual content, unless it is absolutely necessary to the storyline. The most important aspects of work that we expect are creativity, originality and quality of writing. Whether adult contemporary, crime, fantasy, science fiction, legal thriller, Young Adult fiction, historical fiction, realistic, dystopian or comedic, just make sure your novel is memorable and will have readers thinking about it days, even weeks later. When submitting your novel, please see formatting guidelines below. Also, please only submit the first, second and final chapters. If we are interested, we will request the entire novel.

Novella & Short Story Collections

We also accept submissions of novellas and short story collections. Short story collections should be single author only. These submissions should follow the same guidelines as novels and anthologies, as mentioned above. Short story collections should be eclectic and show the full range of the author’s talent. Each story should be separate from the others and not simply a variation on the same theme. Again, make sure your novella or short story collection is memorable. When submitting a novella, please adhere to formatting guidelines listed below. Also, please only submit the first, second and final chapters. Short story collections should also adhere to formatting guidelines. Please submit only the three stories which you feel best represent your body of work. If we are interested, we will request the entire collection.

Format

All submissions should be formatted in either .doc, .docx or .rtf format and sent as email attachments, along with your cover letter, and should be formatted as follows:

  • Type should be Calibri or Times New Roman, 12 point
  • Use 1.5 line spacing and one-inch margins
  • USE PAGE BREAKS BETWEEN CHAPTERS
  • DO NOT USE HARD RETURNS TO CREATE SPACE BETWEEN PARAGRAPHS
  • Author contact info and word count should be on the first page of manuscript
  • Author’s name, title of work and page numbers are not necessary on every page

Cover email should be a brief introduction to the author, with links to the author’s webpage, Facebook page, Twitter page and/or blog, and should include a brief synopsis of the work.

Please put the title of the work and which type of submission (novel, novella, anthology, poetry or short story collection) in the subject line of the email. Be sure to include contact information in either the cover letter or the body of the email, including the author’s full legal name and physical address, and send to meiziuspublishing@gmail.com

Additional Notes & Tips

  • We expect submissions to be “clean” and relatively free of errors. Do not send us your first draft. We want to see technically correct work. This means proper grammar, spelling and word usage.
  • Think about sentence structure, as well as story structure: Read your work out loud and listen to the rhythm of it.
  • Please have someone else take a critical look at your manuscript before you submit. All of these efforts will pay off with a better submission on your part and a shorter response time.
  • Clean submissions indicate that you take your work seriously. In contrast, first draft submissions mark you as an amateur and will likely not be accepted.
  • All works that are accepted are subject to editing. Any author who is not amenable to editing should not submit. Quality editing leads to quality products, and we strive to only publish works of high quality.
  • We offer limited publisher-funded marketing campaigns. Your success is our success!
  • Meizius Publishing is a family-operated company, and all authors are treated as part of our family.
  • THERE WILL NEVER BE A FEE TO THE AUTHOR FOR PUBLISHING WITH US!
  • We do accept multiple submissions from one author. However, we do NOT accept simultaneous submissions.
  • All books will be published in eBook format and sold through a variety of eBook vendors. Books may also be published in hardcover and trade paperback form and sold on Amazon and/or other bookstores.
  • If published in print, the author will have the ability to buy print copies of their book at a discounted price, as agreed upon in the Publishing Agreement.
  • We pay quarterly and will furnish statements to prove you are getting your agreed-upon share of royalties.
  • THOSE NOT FOLLOWING OUR SUBMISSION AND FORMAT GUIDELINES WILL BE RETURNED TO THE AUTHOR WITH A REQUEST FOR RE-SUBMISSION IN THE CORRECT FORM.

If you have questions or concerns regarding any of our policies, please email them to meiziuspublishing@gmail.com.

Thank you! We look forward to reading your work!
